This newsletter is now being hosted at a different service.
I’ve migrated all subscribers over to the new platform, Ghost Pro. You should have already received the first post (titled “Starting over”) and you shouldn’t have to do anything about your subscription. You can find all the content originally published here at the new address, edbott.news.
If you’re not receiving new posts or you are having another issue, leave a comment here. You can also use this contact form to send me an email: edbott.com/contact-me/.
Hasta la vista, Substack!
Ed, I suspect more people have taken your advice to leave 𝕏 than you realize
These days, my 𝕏 posts get maybe 100 “impressions,” 3 likes and an occasional reply from 2 or 3 Twitter friends or by a blue-checked antivaxxer or MAGA fan
The “free speech but no free reach” formula seems maintained so as to induce me to get blue-checked, while padding the engagement/graph density with bots that like/follow my posts
Earlier today: a like and a follow from a bot that follows 4.9K accounts and is followed by 68. Never once posted or replied; seems programmed to pick posts promiscuously/stochastically in multiple languages, sports, geographies, subjects, from non-blue-checks
If it’s purely random(?), about 10% of us non-chex post porn and “subscribe to my hot video” unpaid ads
It’s morphed into a quasi-social platform for Musk’s propaganda. Sounds like only a matter of time before advertisers realize there’s no there there, that ads merely pay for him being able to push his hate a few more months
