Excellent article!

I use 1Password as well but I have one big problem with it. There isn't a password generator on the Android app which seems amazing given how important a good password is. And this is what 1Password is all about ... strong passwords. Or, am I missing something?

That doesn't seem right — however I don't have the Android app running here to confirm.

There's always the https://1password.com/password-generator/

I have that one linked in the article! (Although I think the Bitwarden one is better.)

All I can see is that you can change an existing one with a strong one. And it will offer a strong new one when you sign up at a site, if it recognizes that site and knows you are creating a new account.

But, if it doesn't recognize that you are signing up for a new account and trying to enter a password for it, I see no way to copy/paste from a generator.

I hope I'm just missing it.

You're using 1Password 8, right? (Just checking as I know I had to go into Judy's devices and install it for her because it didn't auto-update.)

And also, you saw my other comment?

If you're trying to manage passwords in bulk on a mobile device, you're in for some pain, a topic I plan to write about in the next installment. But there are ways you can work around this issue.

Create a new Password item using the password generator, as I described earlier. Then copy the password from that item and use it as needed.

You can also duplicate the item whose password you want to change, then replace its password. But that is going to require a lot of juggling and renaming/.

Honestly, this sort of thing really needs to be done in a full web browser on a PC or Mac.

That feature is available. I can't take a screenshot, because security policies prohibit it, but the basic workflow goes:

1. Tap New Item

2. Tap Password OR Login

3. Tap the Password field (that might be the step you're missing)

4. Tap Create a New Password.

Voila! There's the full password generator.

Loving this Ed. Are you going to be taking a look at Passkeys from a civilian's perspective?

Thanks. I know I should do this & tried using 1Password. But going down the CSV list of hundreds of sites with multiple passwords for each site & not knowing which one was current was impossible 😬 & I gave up. This looks like a manageable approach. Thanks.
