I need your help (and it will only take 10 seconds)
Before I publish my next post, I want to know which password managers my readers use..
If you’ve followed my work for the past few years, you already know my philosophy on password managers. (Spoiler: Using a password manager is the single most important security precaution you can take.)
I’m working on a big project to help my readers make their online activities more secure. Before I hit the Publish button, I need your input. Please take a few seconds to answer these two poll questions. If you have the time to add your thoughts in the comments, that's great, but all I really need is these two clicks.
If you answered yes to the first question, please answer this follow-up.
Thanks for your help. And feel free to pass this poll along to friends and colleagues.
I use 1Password, but I also use the built-in password manager in iOS/iPadOS/macOS as well as in Microsoft Edge, the browser I use on the Mac. Yeah I know, it's a mess, and I did a whole column on the fact that I am doing it wrong.
I have used: LastPass, Dashlane, Brave Browser (storing passwords in the browser).
But because of the LastPass breach, I want to clear away entirely from LastPass and assign new pwds for everything I ever put into LastPass.
And while Dashlane has not been a problem (at least not very much), I have not been a power user, and I would like to be.
I have used a simple algorithm in concocting a new pwd, instead of allowing the pwd manager to provide a strong pwd for me.
My concern has been that if I am not where I have access to the pwd manager, I just won’t have any access to my pwds ( which is why I have felt comfortable using my own algorithm that I can carry in my head).
But now I want to shift over to using 2FA, and set up with something that will be easy and fulfilling to use.
To guard against a repeat of the LastPass experience, I am inclined toward a system that stores the pwds in my own various devices, instead of the cloud.
(But I am confused how to achieve the best of all worlds.)
